In his feature filmmaking debut, acclaimed visual artist Takashi Murakami creates a family-friendly monster movie using live action and CGI. Set post-Fukushima, Jellyfish Eyes follows a young boy, Masashi, forced to move to an “experimental city” where each child is paired with a remote-control monster, or “Friend.” But the children must beware, as anger gives these creatures great power…

Inspired by her own family history, Diane Kurys’s (Entre Nous, C’est la Vie) sumptuous historical drama moves between 1947 Lyon, France, and the 1980s. After discovering a hidden family photo, Anne, a young film director, investigates her parents’ tangled relationship and the unexpected arrival of a mysterious family member thought killed in the war. With outstanding performances by the gorgeous cast: Mélanie Thierry, Nicolas Duvauchelle, Sylvie Testud, and Benoit Magimel.
Rick Valicenti 05/08/14
Founder and design director of Thirst/Chicago, a communication design firm devoted to art, function, and “real human presence,” Rick Valicenti was awarded the prestigious American Institute of Graphic Artists (AIGA) Medal in 2006 for his sustained contribution to design excellence and development of the profession. His works are included in the permanent collection of The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum and were featured in its 2006 Triennial, Design Life Now.
